Canary Islands - Volcanic landscapes

"The Canary Islands lie near the northern coast of Africa surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. The islands autonomous region is made up of seven large islands: Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro, plus a number of smaller ones.
The coasts are blessed with vast sandy beaches full of outstanding reefs, capes and bays. Nevertheless in some areas along the western and northern coasts of Gran Canaria, there are many cliffs and steep rock faces. The Canary Islands are characterised by their volcanic scenery. The volcanic activity of the past has created a most peculiar landscape on the islands, with craters, volcanic cones, volcanic rocks, tubes etc. The island's most emblematic natural landscape has to be Mount Teide which, standing at 3,718 metres high, is the tallest mountain in Spain. The island's geography and low rainfall ensure that there are no major rivers of note.(Turespaña)

Cyprus - an Island of legends .....

..... that basks year-round in the light of the warm Mediterranean sun. A storied past 10,000 years long has seen civilizations come and go and the likes of everyone from Alexander the Great to Cleopatra stake their claim here - but then, people do tend to get possessive when faced with such beauty. Aphrodite made her home on Cyprus, and travellers throughout antiquity came here just to pay her tribute.
Today Cyprus is a modern country that effortlessly marries European culture with ancient enchantment. Here you will discover a compact world of alluring beaches and fragrant mountain peaks, vineyards studded with olive trees and ancient ruins that stir the imagination, citrus groves and old stone villages where sweet wine flows as freely as conversations at the local café. A carefree place where a sense of timelessness is magnified by the kindness of the people. Visit the quiet beauty of Cyprus in all its dimensions. Cyprus an island that is as exotic as you imagine - and more accessible than you might think." (Cyprus Tourism Organisation)

Madeira - You can feel nature all around you .....

..... here in the Atlantic Ocean, not too far from the centre of Europe, we find the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo.

The archipelago is famous for its friendly people, exceptional natural beauty and mild climate.
The islands are just a short trip from Europe, to a destination where you can combine holidays on the beach, in the mountains or in the city. Madeira and Porto Santo are the ideal places to relax and restore the balance of mind and body that you need to face the stress of daily life. The island’s mild climate and a water temperature that never goes below 17ºC mean that you can be on the go all the time. Its traditions and customs, visible in its old buildings, museums and churches and even in regional products like its wine and embroidery, have lasted for centuries and deserve your very special attention. (Turismo da Madeira)

Portugal - is synonymous with the sun .....

..... and nature. Whether you’re on the coast or deep in the countryside, the weather and the scenery never let you down. An unrivalled variety of resorts make the Algarve a wonderful place to spend time, even in winter. On the less crowded Costa Vicentina (the Algarve’s south eastern coast) with its small coves and unspoilt beaches, you’ll feel like a real explorer.

But no matter what kind of beach holiday you prefer, with 850 kilometres of fine white sand Portugal’s coast has something for everyone.

Portugal is a country made for outdoor living, from lying on the beach, to riding in hot-air balloons, to setting out on a relaxing walk, to going bird-spotting. The choice is yours". (Portuguese Tourism Office)

Spain - visitors will find unique places .....

..... to which they will always want to return. Visiting Spain is not only about sun, great cuisine, and a warm welcome, but also its rich monumental heritage and dazzling natural environment. There is a perfect destination for everyone." (Instituto de Turismo de Espana)
